About Us
Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is a unique membership organization dedicated to encouraging and recognizing excellence in the field of electrical and computer engineering (ECE). Members consist of students, alumni, and other professionals who have demonstrated exceptional academic and professional accomplishments.
Here at Michigan Technological University, members of the HKN Beta Gamma Chapter are dedicated to serving the ECE student body by providing resources and services to help students succeed.
The HKN Beta Gamma Chapter was established on June 6, 1936. Led by ambitious and forward-looking undergraduates, HKN Beta Gamma is in its second year of revitalization after years of dormancy. Its 15 members were inducted from the ECE Department’s top faculty, graduate students, 33% of seniors, and 25% of juniors. Additionally, the top 10% of the department’s sophomores are now invited to participate in the Chapter’s activities to earn priority in the induction of subsequent years.
In addition to high academic performance and honorable character, HKN members are leaders in many of Michigan Tech’s high-profile programs such as Enterprise teams (Blue Marble Security, Aerospace, and Hybrid Electric Vehicle), academic groups (the Honors Institute, Research Scholars, and IEEE), and other service opportunities (the ECE Department, MindTrekkers, and Make A Difference Day).
